Advice

Plaster
Plaster provides a smooth surface for decoration. It is either in the form of plasterboard - sheets that are fixed to the wall or ceiling and covered with a 'skim' of plaster - or traditional plasterwork which is applied directly to the wall or ceiling. It will help us if you know which type you are having a problem with.

Small cracks in new homes are often caused by new plaster drying out.

Larger cracks and crumbling or loose plaster is often caused by a damp problem; perhaps a recent leak or an old leak that has been cured.

Always seek permission before decorating. Decorating can cause plaster issues, and you may be liable for the costs to cover the repair of any defects caused by your alterations.

Skirting & Floorboards
These often become loose but if the wood is rotten or crumbling this may indicate a more serious problem.
